Thank you. I’m finding that as the days pass I’m softening toward more graciousness and compassion for those who are truly grieving his death. I’ve lost some dear ones, and can empathize.
That said, I am quite grateful that we will not have his hateful words and influence on our collective lives for the next 40 years. That’s a gift.
All life is precious, even the humans we don't vibe with. Yes to taking the high road and always Vote for those who speak to your interests. My whole life I have had hope for a brighter tomorrow, today is no different. Peace and love to all.
This is anecdotal, but maybe something that supports your hope. University of Wisconsin-Platteville is the most conservative campus in the UW network. The campus GOP program (Young Republicans?) is quite active. Participation by students in Democrat organizations has been pretty limited. During the election last fall, a poll-worker I know reported groups of young men coming into the campus polling place to register to vote for the first time. They were as excited "as if going to a football game"; they were clearly followers of Charlie Kirk, Joe Rogan, etc. and would vote for Trump based on the comments they were making.
Fast forward to this fall semester: At the community outreach fair at UWP in early September, an unusually large number of students visited the Grant County Dems' table, and an unprecedented number (45) signed up to be active. Keeping my fingers crossed.
I was thinking that perhaps the difference is that we (and the right wingers) SAW the videos on X of Charlie Kirk being shot, the blood shooting from his wound and him falling (and dying) right in front of our eyes, all in 4 SECONDS and with NOTHING blurred. We've never been shown anything similar with our school shootings, such as for example, videos of the shooters actually shooting the little kids in Sandy Hook and Uvalde, and photos of their bodies left so destroyed that DNA is needed to identify them, and the pools of blood that are part of all mass shootings, and the media doesn't follow up with the survivors of our mass shootings to show us just how much their lives have changed from having shrapnel left in their bodies (which leaks lead into their blood and requires transfussions) and from the multiple surgeries needed to repair the damage done by an AR-15. I think that allows us (or really the Republicans) to not do anything about it.
Everyone thinks the midterms will save us. Unless the democrats replace all of senior leadership and the horrid current DNC, that is a real laugher. HRC endorses Cuomo I believe. Why hasn’t Mamdani been endorsed? Why are they pushing 77 year old Mills in Maine instead of Platner? Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate" or "Abandon all hope, ye who enter" is the current democratic motto.

Thanks for your optimism.
