Trump Gets Super Petty, Amid His Failing Agenda
Think he doesn't care what the public thinks? Ask the USTA.
One of the most misunderstood aspects of Trump is how much he cares about being liked, and how even the smallest of offenses can get under his thin skin. The media has consistently misrepresented him as being happy with his performance, because they adopt *his* narrative, hook, line and sinker.
What often actually drives Trump is his insecurities, which fuel a need for retribution and striking out at even the smallest slights. Confident leaders, of course, don't do this. But you can tell when Trump is feeling the most vulnerable, because he gets really, really petty. We’ll start with three examples. But as well, I want to summarize some of the many ways his agenda is stalled or failing.
1) The USTA on the U.S. Open
The U.S. Tennis Association sent a memo to broadcasters ahead of Trump’s planned attendance of the U.S. Open men’s final, asking them to censor any protests or reactions to Trump. Simply incredible. What a skin-thinned coward!
Trump had hoped for some grand authoritarian gesture - him seated, center stage, in a perch-like location, looking over his adoring fans. That didn’t happen. In addition his attendance creating a delay in the start of the match, while tennis fans waited in the rain to clear the extra security needs created by Trump’s visit - because it’s all about Trump - the folks in his hometown of Queens just don’t like him. And he knows this because the last time he attended the U.S. Open in 2015, he was summarily booed!
Well, sorry USTA. There’s this new invention called cellphones. And people simply took out them out and recorded the truth.
Think Trump doesn’t care about what people think about him? Think again! Just another insecure autocrat who can only tolerate praise.
